How I Move Through Imposter Syndrome As I Grow My Business

Over the years, I’ve had many conversations with clients, women in leadership, and members of my own community about Imposter Syndrome. It’s a topic that comes up repeatedly, especially at the point of expansion.

You’re about to raise your prices, take up more space, become more visible, or speak to a different audience… and suddenly the voice comes in. Who am I to do this?

Imposter Syndrome doesn’t only show up in the early stages of business. It can appear when you're already established, already successful, already making moves.

In fact, that’s often when it gets loudest.

My work, both for myself and with my clients, has been about finding grounded ways to move through those moments without shrinking. Not by ignoring the voice or pretending it's not there, but by understanding it, working with it, and expanding anyway.

This blog is an invitation to reflect on where imposter syndrome might be holding you back and how you can begin to soften its grip through self-trust, aligned action, and reconnecting with your bigger vision.

Reconnect with Your Big Vision

One of the most powerful things you can do when imposter syndrome creeps in is to revisit your purpose. Why are you doing this work? What’s the bigger vision you hold for yourself, your clients, your community, and the world?

When I hold that energy, my mission, my dharma, it lifts me out of the fear. The self-doubt becomes less relevant because I’m no longer making it about me. I’m focused on service, contribution, and the bigger reason behind it all. That energy carries momentum.

Understand Your Human Design

Human Design has helped me build a deeper relationship with self-trust. It teaches us to honour our uniqueness, instead of comparing ourselves to everyone else. It helps us understand why we’re wired the way we are and how to make aligned decisions from that place.

When you can see yourself clearly, you stop chasing someone else’s version of success. You stop questioning whether you’re doing it “right” and start building your business from a place of genuine self-recognition. That alone can diffuse imposter syndrome in powerful ways.

Name the Voice

This might sound simple, but it works: name the voice of imposter syndrome.

Give it a name.

Mine’s called “Margaret”.

When Margaret shows up, I recognise her. I know what she’s trying to do. Instead of letting her drive the decisions in my business, I gently invite her to sit down and take a break. Sometimes I even say it out loud: “Pipe down, Margaret.”

That practice brings awareness. It also opens up the opportunity to trace the voice back to where it originated. Was it a parent? A teacher? A moment from childhood? When you know the source, it becomes much easier to release it and give it back, with love.

The result isn’t a life or business completely free from imposter syndrome.

I don’t think that’s the goal.

The shift is that when the voice shows up now, I know what to do. I see it for what it is. I no longer let it stop me from showing up in the fullness of who I am.

This work isn’t always quick or easy, but it is transformational. It opens the door to more confidence, deeper trust and greater visibility. And that’s what allows your leadership to expand.

If this resonates, I’d love to hear from you. Have you named your inner voice? What’s helped you move through imposter syndrome in your own journey?
